REGISTRY
INSTRUCTIONS

Follow the directions below when registering your bird with the International Ratite Registry.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REGISTRATION

1. Bird Name

Please enter the name of the bird that you wish to register.  Chosen names must start with the farm name of the breeder (this is generally the name of the farm that owns the dam of your bird).  If the farm name is unknown, your bird’s chosen name should start with the initials of the owner’s name.  For example, if the bird was purchase from Amazing Emu Farms and you wish to name your bird Jane, then your bird’s registered name would be Amazing Emu Jane.  If you do not know what farm your bird originated from and your name is John Doe, then your bird’s name would be JD Jane.

2. Hatch Year

Please enter the year in which your bird hatched in the format YYYY.  For example, if your bird hatched March 1, 2018, please enter 2018.

3. Gender

Please select the gender of the bird being registered.  If unknown, select unknown.  DNA tests are recommended for all birds of unknown gender.

4. Color

Please select the color of your bird from the drop-down menu.

5. Farm Tag or Microchip Number

Please enter the tag or microchip number used to identify your bird on your farm.  For instance, if you placed a green tag that says #123, please enter “Green Tag #123” in this field.  A microchip number is preferred when present.

6. Sire Name and IRR#

The sire is the father of the bird being registered.  If the sire has already been registered with us, please include his assigned IRR#.  If you do not know the exact sire, please enter the name of the farm the sire is located at.  If no information is known on the sire, please leave blank.

7. Dam Name and IRR#

The dam is the mother of the bird being registered.  If the dam has already been registered with us, please include her assigned IRR#.  If you do not know the exact dam, please enter the name of the farm the dam is located at.  If no information is known on the dam, please leave blank.

10. Breeder Name or Farm Name/Location

This is the breeder’s name or farm name where the dam of your bird resides.  Farm name and location are preferred.  For example, if your bird Jane came from the Amazing Emu Farm in California, please enter “Amazing Emu Farm California” in this field.

11. Breeder Email Address

Please enter a valid email address for the breeder of your bird.

12. Owner Name or Farm Name/Location

This is the owner’s name or farm name where the bird being registered resides.  Farm name and location are preferred.  For example, if your bird Jane now lives on Broken Feather Farm in Idaho, please enter “Broken Feather Farm Idaho” in this field.

13. Owner Email Address

Please enter a valid email address for the owner of the bird being registered.  This information is not published to the public database.

14. Upload Breeder Memo

A breeder memo is necessary for birds hatched after 2021 if the breeder and owner are two different people.  A breeder memo is a document from the breeder of the bird certifying that the dam and sire information is correct.  A breeder memo is not required if an owner is registering a bird that was bred on their own farm or a bird that was hatched prior to 2021.  A breeder memo is also not required if the breeder information is not known.  For example, if you purchased hatching eggs from California and do not know the breeder’s information, you would enter California on the “Breeder Name or Farm/Location” field and would not be required to submit a breeder memo.  If you know that the eggs came from Amazing Emu Farm and the breeder provided the names of the sire and dam in writing, please submit a copy of the document stating this parental information.

15. Registering Person

Please select if the owner or breeder is registering the bird.  If you are the breeder and owner, select “Breeder and Owner”.  If the breeder is registering the bird, they should include their breeder security code in the following box.  This code will expedite the registration process.

16. Breeder Security Code

A breeder security code is assigned to breeders listed in our directory.  Registration that includes the assigned code will expedite the application as it bypasses the need to contact the breeder to confirm lineage.  Breeders should never share their security code.  If a breeder feels that their code has been compromised, please contact us to issue a new code.
